This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL

Purpose

We are seeking a curious, creative, and business-oriented Data Engineer to join our BTS US Commercial Patient Services team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a deep affinity for analysis, math, and statistics. In addition to expertise in quantitative methodologies and programming, a keen business acumen is essential. A passion for data exploration, machine learning, and innovative thinking is crucial. Staying updated with leading-edge data science technologies and utilizing relevant technical skills and methodologies are key aspects of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of data concepts, analytics, complex data structures, and relationships.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive system and project documentation, including change requests, functional requirements, test plans, data migration plans, and cutover plans. Delegate appropriate tasks to junior analysts.
  • Review and refine data models for development projects, assisting team members in understanding and adhering to established standards.
  • Partner with key stakeholders and external vendors/partners to maintain, optimize, scale, and operationalize existing machine learning models.
  • Establish trust with business leadership to ensure data and deliverables reflect advanced data science best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating business use cases for data science feasibility and collaborate with development teams to design and implement data science solutions and capabilities.
  • Identify new data science methodologies to enhance our ability to address commercial business questions. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business queries into algorithms that support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business questions, timelines, requirements, objectives, and success criteria for data science initiatives.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends and innovations in data engineering to drive ongoing improvement and innovation.
  • Ensure all project activities are completed timely, accurately, within budget, and comply with financial and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with at least 4 years of experience. Experience within the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Demonstrated experience in implementing Data Warehouse/Data Lake solutions using cloud-based databases such as Snowflake, Azure SQL Database, or RedShift.
    • Proficiency in programming languages and databases, including Python, SQL, and tools like Snowflake and Snowpark, for tasks involving data manipulation, storage, and automation.
    • At least 3 years of experience in data management, business analysis, and developing analytical models using statistical, machine learning, and data mining methodologies to drive business impact.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience with machine learning algorithms, including Linear and Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest, and Neural Networks.
    • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Qlik, Power BI, or Tableau.
    • Strong analytical reasoning, intellectual curiosity, business acumen, and creative problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact and present information both verbally and in writing across all organizational levels.
    • Ability to adapt to changing business conditions with agility and nimbleness, demonstrating strong collaboration and teamwork across functional groups.
    • Leadership capabilities to strategically guide the team and build trust and respect within the department.

Salary and compensation

$82,500 - $157,500 per year
